Wild Seals on Kangaroo Island

Today we got up at 5.45am and saw this amazing view:

We had to get up so early because we were going to Kangaroo Island! We were very excited, after the Great Barrier Reef, Ayers Rock and Sydney Opera House, Kangaroo Island is in the top five best places to go in Australia (according to my guide book).

Carole very kindly took us to the bus station and we took a 1 and half hour coach ride to Cape Jervis:

We then got the ferry across to Penneshaw,

Tanbay hadn't been on a ferry before but we had a great time singing "I'm on a boat"

So this was our first view of Kangaroo Island..

But we were still very excited to be there as you can see:

eeee this isn't even a pose it's a lucky natural shot!

this is a pose though.

We got a mini bus from Penneshaw to Kingscote, the bus driver was really nice and brought us right to the door! Our accommodation was bigger and better decorated than we expected, it was actually Carole's unit which we can recommend highly. It's literally two minutes away from this gorgeous beach:

We were pleased to see the weather had improved loads!

This is the first pelican we've ever seen, I didn't realise they were so big!
It got even hotter as we walked along so I celebrated with some poor roundhouses

This seemed to be where all the shells hang out:

Tanbay decided he was king of the rock

but he fell and hurt his hands :(

This photo is at Reeve's point which is the site of the first European settlement in South Australia

This is the second beach we found, also very near the unit

This is where Tanbay chased me for ten minutes with sea weed..

but we made up

Next we went to a third beach which had a pool built into it, it had this hilarious sign about not releasing sharks into the pool, which is disappointing to say the least.

We looked from the pool into the sea and saw a wild seal really close!!!

it was awesome

we went back to the second beach and I heard a seal!

We walked closer and saw loads of them up close out of the water!

we were really close but I still had to climb over the fence and get closer, it was great they are so beautiful and similar to cats. Then one of them saw me and growled so I had to run away

but this note in the guest book sums it up:

Tanbay tried to convince me an adult drew this..

Could happen.
